| Long a favorite with Europeans,
the tiny country of the Gambia is growing in popularity with Americans.
It takes its name from the river that defines the country's long narrow
geography. Surrounded by Senegal, this former British colony now reaps
the benefit of visitors who take a few days to come and see the village
of Juffure - the home of Kunta Kinteh - made famous by Alex Haley's "Roots". |
 |
 |
|
The Roots Festival is held
annually during the month of June.
|
|
Pilgrims from all across the Diaspora
take part in the Roots Festival. Tours include a visit to Juffure and descendants
of the Kinteh family. There are cultural performances & workshops for
cooking, music and African dance. |
